Star Forge
About Star Forge
Star Forge is a calm but tricky merge game about building a galaxy from a handful of dust. Join matching neighbours to climb from dust through moons, planets and stars, and keep room on the board as meteor showers drop extra debris.
How to play
- Drag a tile onto a matching tile next to it to merge them into the next tier.
- Drag a tile to any empty cell to reposition it. Every move adds new debris to the board.
- Every fifth turn a meteor shower adds an extra tile.
- The run ends when the board is full and no neighbours match.
The ten tiers
Every tile belongs to one of ten tiers: Dust, Pebble, Ember, Moon, Comet, Planet, Giant, Star, Nova and Galaxy. Two matching tiles make one tile of the next tier, and higher merges pay far more. Dust into Pebble scores 10 points, and each tier after that doubles the reward. Merging two Galaxies triggers a supernova: both tiles vanish from the board and you collect a 10,000 point bonus.
Why merges beat moves
The board has 25 cells and starts with six tiles. A merge removes one tile and the new debris replaces it, so the count stays level. A plain move removes nothing and still adds debris, which makes every reposition a small loss of space. Use moves only when they set up a merge you could not reach otherwise.
Planning around meteor showers
Every fifth turn drops two tiles instead of one, and the counter above the board shows how long you have. New tiles land in random empty cells, so keep a few cells open before a shower. Most debris arrives at the lowest tier, with about one tile in four arriving one tier higher. Once you forge a Giant, Dust stops falling and the lowest debris becomes Pebble, so clear stray Dust early or it may never find a partner.
Keep big tiles together
Tiles only merge with direct neighbours above, below or beside them, never diagonally. Building your highest tiers along one edge keeps them close together and leaves the open area free for small merges. On a touch screen you can also tap a tile and then tap its target instead of dragging.
