Spore Burst

About Spore Burst

Spore Burst is a turn-based strategy game of chain reactions. You and a computer rival grow spores on a 6×6 board. When a cell gets too full it bursts, capturing its neighbours and sometimes setting off a chain that sweeps across the board.

How to play

  1. On your turn, tap an empty cell or one of your own to add a spore.
  2. A corner bursts at 2 spores, an edge at 3 and any other cell at 4.
  3. A burst sends one spore to each neighbour and captures those cells, even if the rival owned them.
  4. Win by wiping out every rival spore. You move first.

Why corners matter

Corners burst with only two spores, so they are quick to charge and hard to attack, because just two cells touch them. Edges need three spores, and the middle of the board needs four. Early on, corners and edges give you fast threats while the rival has few cells to strike back from.

Read the danger signs

A glowing outline marks any cell that is one spore away from bursting. Before each move, look for rival cells with that outline next to your own, because they can capture your cells on their next turn. Your own outlined cells are threats too. A burst captures neighbours and adds a spore to each of them, which can push them over their own limit and start a chain.

Strike first

When your full cell sits beside a rival full cell, whoever moves first usually wins that fight. If you see that standoff on your turn, burst right away. A single well-timed burst can capture a cluster of charged cells, and those captured cells then keep the chain going on your behalf.

Do not overbuild

Stacking spores in one area feels safe, but a dense block of your cells is exactly what a rival chain can capture in one move. Keep your charged cells apart from rival charged cells unless you are the one about to strike. A quiet move in a safe corner is often better than adding to a tense front line.

Easy and Hard

The button at the top switches between rivals and starts a new game. Easy picks the move that looks best right now. Hard also considers your best reply, so it avoids most obvious traps. Your total wins are saved in your browser.
