Clover Sweep

About Clover Sweep

Clover Sweep is a minesweeper-style logic game set in a meadow. Bees hide under the grass, and the numbers tell you how many are next to each square. Unlike classic versions, every board can be cleared by logic alone, so you never have to guess.

How to play

  1. Tap a square to dig. A number shows how many bees touch that square, including diagonals.
  2. Long-press, right-click or turn on Flag mode to mark a square with a clover where you know a bee is.
  3. Tap a number whose bees are all marked to dig every other square around it.
  4. Dig every safe square to win. Digging up a bee ends the game.

Three sizes

Easy is a 9×9 meadow with 10 bees, Medium is 16×16 with 40 bees and Hard is 16 wide and 30 tall with 99 bees. Your best time is saved for each size. The Clovers counter shows how many bees are left once you take away the clovers you have placed, which helps near the end of a board.

No guessing needed

The bees are placed after your first tap, and that tap and its eight neighbours are always safe, so you start with an open area. Clover Sweep then plays the board with a solver before you see it. If the solver would ever need to guess, the board is thrown away and a new one is laid. That means a safe, logical move always exists, even when it is hard to spot.

Reading single numbers

If a number touches exactly as many hidden squares as its value, all of them are bees, so mark them with clovers. If a number already has all its bees marked, every other hidden square around it is safe. A 1 in a corner of the open area with only one hidden neighbour is the classic starting point.

Comparing two numbers

When single numbers run out, look at two numbers side by side. If every hidden square around one number is also around the other, the difference between their values tells you about the extra squares. For example, a 1 next to a 2, where the 2 has one extra hidden square, means that extra square must be a bee. The solver only uses these two ideas, so every board here can be cleared with them.

Faster clearing

Tapping a number that already has all its clovers placed digs every other neighbour at once, which saves a lot of taps. On a phone, Flag mode turns every tap into a clover, which is quicker than long-pressing when you have many to place. On a keyboard, F switches Flag mode on and off.
