About Firefly Jars

Firefly Jars is a calm sorting puzzle with 20 levels. Fireflies of every colour are mixed across a row of jars, and you pour them from jar to jar until each jar holds a single colour. Numbers on each layer make the colours easy to tell apart.

How to play

  1. Tap a jar to pick it up, then tap another jar to pour.
  2. You can only pour onto the same colour or into an empty jar.
  3. All matching fireflies on top move together, as many as will fit.
  4. Sort every colour into its own full jar to clear the level.

Levels and colours

Each jar holds four fireflies, and every level gives you two empty jars to work with. Levels 1 to 3 have three colours, and one more colour joins every three levels after that. Levels 19 and 20 use nine colours across eleven jars. Every level has been checked by a solver, so a solution always exists.

Protect your empty jars

Empty jars are your most valuable resource, since they are the only place that accepts any colour. Before you pour into one, check that you are getting something for it, such as uncovering a colour you can pour straight onto a matching layer. If both empty jars fill up with mixed colours, you will run out of moves quickly.

Finish one colour at a time

Pick a colour that already sits near the top of several jars and gather it first. A completed jar is out of the way for good, and the jars you emptied along the way become free space. Colours buried at the bottom of the jars are best left until later.

Look at what a pour uncovers

Before each pour, check the layer underneath. A good pour reveals a colour that matches another jar, which sets up the next move. A pour that uncovers nothing useful only moves the problem around.

Undo without penalty

There is no timer, and Undo takes back as many moves as you like, so you can test an idea and step back if it fails. Reset returns the level to the start. Your unlocked levels are saved in your browser, and the arrow buttons take you back to any of them.
