About Chime Path

Chime Path is a sequence memory game with sound. Six coloured pads light up and chime in order, and you play the sequence back. Every round adds one more step and plays a little faster, and from the eighth step the ring of pads starts to turn.

How to play

  1. Press Start and watch the pads light up one at a time.
  2. When Your turn appears, tap the pads in the same order.
  3. Each round repeats the whole sequence and adds one new step at the end.
  4. One wrong pad ends the game. Your score is the longest sequence you repeated.

Pads, colours and tones

There are six pads, numbered 1 to 6, each with its own colour and note. The notes come from a five-note scale, so any sequence sounds like a short tune. The same pad never lights twice in a row, so every flash you see is a new step. You can play with the keys 1 to 6 as well as by tapping.

Speed

In the first round each step lasts 0.65 seconds. Every new step makes the playback 25 milliseconds faster per step, until it reaches 0.3 seconds per step at a sequence of 15. Your own taps have no time limit, so take a breath before you start each answer.

The turning ring

Once the sequence reaches 8 steps, the ring turns one place clockwise after every round. Pads keep their colour, number and note, but they move to new positions. Players who remember where to tap get caught out here, while players who remember which colour, number or note comes next carry on as normal.

Remember in chunks

A string of twelve steps is hard to hold as single items. Group the sequence into chunks of three or four, such as red, orange, blue, then green, yellow, red. Saying the numbers or colours in your head as they play helps too. Since every round repeats the old sequence, you only need to add the new step to what you already know.

Sound and scores

The notes help a lot, because a tune is easier to remember than a list of colours. If you need to play quietly, Sound on and Sound off in the top bar switches the notes, and the choice is saved. Your best score is saved in this browser too.
