Math Sprint
About Math Sprint
Math Sprint is a free mental math game against the clock. Answer as many sums as you can in 60 seconds by picking the right answer from four choices. The sums start with simple addition and grow into subtraction, times tables and division as your score climbs.
How to play
- Press Start and pick the right answer from the four choices.
- Each right answer scores 1 point.
- A wrong answer takes 3 seconds off the clock.
- The run ends when the clock reaches zero. Keys 1 to 4 pick the answers in order.
How the sums change
The first 5 sums are additions with numbers up to 10. From a score of 5, subtraction joins in with numbers up to 20. From 10, multiplication appears, using times tables from 2 to 10. From 18, division joins, and from 28 and 40 the numbers grow to 25 and then 50. Subtraction never goes below zero and division always comes out as a whole number.
Speed versus accuracy
A wrong answer costs 3 seconds, which is about the time of two quick right answers. Guessing at random loses time on average, so it pays to take a moment and be sure. The bar at the top shows how much time is left, and the clock never gets extra seconds back.
Use the choices
You only need to tell the right answer from three wrong ones, and the wrong ones are close to it. Often the last digit is enough. For 7 × 8, only one choice can end in 6. For additions, check whether the answer should be odd or even. These shortcuts save time once the sums get bigger.
Practise times tables
The middle of a run is mostly multiplication and division, so knowing the tables up to 10 by heart makes the biggest difference to your score. Division sums are times tables backwards: 56 ÷ 8 is the number that makes 8 × ? = 56. Math Sprint works well as a daily warm-up for students, or as a quick brain break for adults.
