About Lantern Trail

Lantern Trail is a quiet logic puzzle with 20 levels. Starting from the glowing lantern, draw one unbroken trail that lights every lantern on the grid without crossing your path. Boards grow from 4×4 to 7×7 as you go.

How to play

  1. Drag from the glowing lantern to neighbouring lanterns to extend your trail.
  2. Move up, down, left or right. Diagonal steps and crossing your trail are not allowed.
  3. Drag back along the trail, or tap an earlier lantern, to undo.
  4. Light every lantern to clear the level and unlock the next one.

Levels and board sizes

The 20 levels come in four groups of five. Levels 1 to 5 use a 4×4 board, levels 6 to 10 use 5×5, levels 11 to 15 use 6×6, and levels 16 to 20 use 7×7. Some boards have gaps where no lantern stands, and those gaps shape the route you can take. Every level has at least one solution, and the boards are the same for every player.

Find the dead ends first

A lantern with only one open neighbour is a dead end. Your trail can enter it but never leave, so unless it is your starting point it has to be the last lantern you light. If you see two unlit dead ends at once, your current trail cannot work, so back up. This one check solves many of the larger boards.

Work the edges

Corners and edges have fewer neighbours than the middle of the board, so they are the first places to get cut off. Sweep along the edges early and leave the open centre for last, because the centre gives you more ways to finish. Before you step, ask whether the move splits the unlit lanterns into two separate areas. A single trail can never finish both.

Undo freely and keep your progress

There is no timer and no move limit, so experimenting costs nothing. Drag back along the trail to undo one step at a time, tap an earlier lantern to jump back to it, or press Reset to start the level again. Clearing a level unlocks the next one, your progress is saved in your browser, and the arrow buttons take you back to any level you have already unlocked.
