Silk Spider Solitaire

About Silk Spider Solitaire

Silk Spider Solitaire is a free spider solitaire card game with one, two or four suits. Build runs from king down to ace in a single suit across ten columns. Each complete run leaves the table, and clearing all eight wins the game.

How to play

  1. Tap a face-up card to move it, with any cards of the same suit in order below it, to the best open spot.
  2. A card or run can go onto a card one rank higher, of any suit, or into an empty column.
  3. A full run from king to ace in one suit is removed from the table automatically.
  4. Tap the stock to deal one new card onto every column. Clear all eight runs to win.

The deal

Spider uses two decks, 104 cards in all. Fifty-four go into ten columns: the first four columns get six cards and the rest get five, with only the bottom card face up. The other 50 cards form the stock, which deals ten cards at a time, so you get five deals in a game. You cannot deal while any column is empty, so fill every gap before you tap the stock.

One, two or four suits

With one suit, every card is a spade, so any card can join any run. That is the best way to learn spider solitaire. Two suits mixes spades and hearts, and four suits uses all of them, which is far harder because only same-suit runs can move together. Your best score is kept separately for each mode.

Scoring

You start with 500 points. Each move or deal costs 1 point, and each completed king-to-ace run adds 100. A game won with few moves scores highest. Undo is unlimited and restores the board exactly, including the point the move cost, so trying an idea and taking it back is free.

Where cards go

When you tap a card, it moves to the best legal spot. A card one rank higher in the same suit comes first, then a card one rank higher in another suit, then an empty column. If a card cannot move anywhere, its column shakes. Only a run of one suit in descending order can move as a group, so a mixed-suit stack has to be split up.

Strategy

Turning face-down cards over is the main goal, so prefer moves that uncover a hidden card. Build in the same suit whenever you can, because mixed-suit stacks are hard to move later. Empty columns are your most powerful tool: use them to break up stacks and reorder runs, but remember you must fill them again before the next deal. Kings can only move into empty columns, so be careful where they end up.
